What does the ISO 9001 standard mean?

ISO 9001:2015 is an internationally recognized standard for creating, implementing, and maintaining a Quality Management System for a company. The standard was most recently updated in 2015, and it is referred to as ISO 9001:2015.

ISO 9001:2015 is the most widely used QMS standard in the world, with over 1 million certificates issued to organizations in 180 countries. The standard focuses mainly on the effectiveness of a quality management system in meeting customer requirements. It is applicable to all organisations regardless of their size, type, product or service provided they wish to control and improve their business performance and enhance customer satisfaction.

The introduction of the standard encourages companies to strive for continuous improvement following the principle of PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act), with special emphasis on the motivation of employees towards continuous improvement, as well as corrective and preventive measures.
